2003-2008 350Z Steering Columns and Intermediate Shafts: Body, Build and Safety Identification

US/LHD Nissan 350Z only, narrowed to 2003-2008 Coupe and 2004-2008 Roadster factory steering-column and intermediate-shaft applications. Resolve recipient and donor VIN/build, Coupe versus Roadster, VQ35DE versus VQ35HR production branch and exact installed identities. Exclude the 2009 Roadster because its exact upper-column service identity was not independently proved, plus Infiniti G35 assumptions, 370Z, non-US/RHD, altered or welded shafts, collision-collapsed assemblies, and all theft, lock, immobilizer or restraint-bypass work.

What you need to know

This is a lawful parts-identification and safety guide only. Start with recipient and donor VINs/build dates, Coupe or Roadster body, engine/production branch, readable labels and actual-piece photographs. Match the upper column assembly, tilt mechanism and brackets, upper and lower shaft identities, lower joint, spline and pinch interfaces, firewall cover, rack connection and every fastener. Treat the lock or ignition housing, keys/transponders, immobilizer electronics, switches, spiral cable, steering-angle sensor, steering wheel and airbag as separate itemized components; a donor key or lock does not authorize or prove vehicle access, starting or immobilizer compatibility, and this guide provides no bypass instructions. Reject any column or shaft with collision or airbag-deployment history, collapse or changed length, bent or binding shaft, jacket-tube or collar damage, cracks, looseness or bearing play, seized joints, spline or pinch damage, serious corrosion, drilling, grinding, heat, welding, straightening, tampering or missing safety hardware. Never treat a welded, re-straightened or impact-collapsed column as serviceable. Nissan service material requires post-removal inspection of the jacket tube/collar and column dimensions and turning behavior, with replacement when damage or out-of-spec condition is found. Have a qualified technician follow the exact factory manual, SRS precautions and required inspections, preserve straight-ahead and spiral-cable neutral references, confirm steering and restraint-system function and perform any applicable steering-angle calibration. Do not use seller model-year overlap to extend this page to the 2009 Roadster or G35.

OEM numbers

BODY/PRODUCTION-SPECIFIC UPPER COLUMNS: Coupe 48810-CD010 and 48810-CF41ARoadster 48810-CE410 and 48810-CF61A. Preserve the catalog body, engine and build splitno cross-body or cross-production supersession is asserted. LOWER JOINT: 48080-AG300 -> 48080-AG30A. LOWER SHAFT BRANCHES: 48822-CD000 -> 48822-CD00A and 48822-CF40A -> 48822-CF40B. Separate upper shaft: 48820-CD010. Column covers, tilt hardware, switch or lock housing, ignition switch, keys/transponders, immobilizer components, combination switch, spiral cable, steering-angle sensor, steering wheel and airbag are separate identities and are included only when itemized.

Supersession

Verified lower-joint chain: 48080-AG300 -> 48080-AG30A. Verified early lower-shaft chain: 48822-CD000 -> 48822-CD00A. Verified later lower-shaft chain: 48822-CF40A -> 48822-CF40B. No supersession was proved among upper columns 48810-CD010, 48810-CE410, 48810-CF41A and 48810-CF61A; they remain Coupe/Roadster and production-specific branches requiring both VINs and the exact EPC diagram. Upper shaft 48820-CD010 is a separate component, not an upper-column supersession.

Aftermarket options

The accepted path is a correctly identified, unmodified factory upper column, shaft or lower joint that passes qualified safety inspection. Aftermarket solid joints, quick-release hubs, altered columns, welded shafts, steering-angle adapters and race or swap components are separate engineered systems and are not represented as OE-equivalent donor identities. No modification may defeat the collapsible section, lock, immobilizer, spiral cable, steering-angle sensing or SRS function.

Before you buy

US/LHD 2003-2008 350Z Coupe and 2004-2008 Roadster only; the 2009 Roadster, G35 and non-US/RHD applications are excluded. Match both VINs/builds, body and exact upper-column, shaft and joint identities. Reject any impacted, collapsed, bent, binding, loose, corroded, drilled, welded, straightened or tampered assembly. Keys, lock or ignition housing, immobilizer parts, switches, spiral cable, steering-angle sensor, wheel and airbag are separate unless itemized. This is identification and safety information only and provides no lock, immobilizer or restraint bypass. Require qualified factory-procedure inspection and functional acceptance.
