NA/NB Miata Factory Hoods: Shell, Hinge, Latch, Support and Washer Identification

The checked Mazda EPC and current service evidence support earlier NB hood NCY0-52-31XJ -> current NCY0-52-31XK. No NAY1-52-310D to NCY0 shell supersession or interchange is asserted. Right and left hinges NA01-52-410D and NA01-52-420D appear across the checked NA/NB hood sections, but that shared attachment equipment does not make the shells, latch, release cable, support, washer nozzles, cushions or seals interchangeable. NA support rods NA01-56-650 and NA75-56-650A are distinct production branches; NB NC10-56-650D is separate. The absence of an insulator in the checked diagrams is not converted into a fabricated part number.

Start with the recipient VIN/build and confirm NA 1990-1997 versus NB 1999-2005; there is no US 1998 application in this guide. Match NAY1-52-310D to NA or the NCY0 shell family to NB. Shared hinge identities alone do not prove the shells or closure systems interchange. Before ordering, verify both hinge mounting planes, primary latch and secondary safety catch, release cable, prop-rod branch and holders, front/rear cushions or seals, washer-nozzle side and every included fastener. The checked factory hood sections enumerate those components but no underhood insulation or liner for either generation; do not invent an OEM liner or use generic insulation as factory evidence. Mazda's checked owner instructions require releasing the primary latch, operating the safety catch, supporting the hood with the prop rod, securing the rod before closing and confirming the hood is locked; they also call for hinge and lock lubrication and verification that the secondary latch holds when the primary is released. Inspect a used hood for bent rear corners, buckled inner frame, separated adhesive or hems, latch-area cracks, corrosion, drilled pins/vents, filler, repaint and paint mismatch. Require actual-panel photographs and diagonal/edge measurements, and protect the long aluminum panel from point loads and freight damage. Primer, color and seller use of complete do not define paint readiness or contents. A straight genuine used or current Mazda service hood is the factory-identification path.
