NA/NB Miata Manual Transmission Identification and Direct Replacement

US-market 1990-1993 NA6, 1994-1997 NA8, 1999-2000 NB1, and 2001-2005 NB2 manual transmissions. This is direct-replacement gearbox identification, not a swap recipe.

What you need to know

Direct replacement only. Confirm five-speed/six-speed, case and shifter assembly, speedometer method, clutch interface, driveshaft, differential/flange, and PPF attachment/alignment. Automatic cars are excluded; a conversion requires a separate complete engineering plan.

OEM numbers

No universal transmission assembly number is claimed. Separate NA6, NA8, NB five-speed, early/late NB six-speed, and Mazdaspeed-era assemblies using case, shifter, speedometer, VIN/catalog and interface evidence.

Supersession

No anecdotal cross-generation interchange or supersession is published. Rebuild kits, used gearboxes, and blueprinted competition gearboxes are distinct purchase paths.
