First-Generation FR-S, BRZ and 86 Instrument-Cluster Assembly Identification

US-market first-generation rear-wheel-drive coupes only: 2013-2016 Scion FR-S, 2017-2020 Toyota 86 and 2013-2020 Subaru BRZ. This guide identifies complete factory combination-meter/instrument-cluster assemblies by VIN, badge, model year, production/equipment catalog branch, manual-versus-automatic transmission display, installed service number and connector/face evidence. Second-generation 2022-up GR86/BRZ, non-US or RHD kilometer-only donors without an authoritative US match, aftermarket digital conversions, immobilizer or key-system bypass, mileage alteration and unsupported cross-badge interchange are excluded.

What you need to know

Start with the 17-character VIN, US badge/model year, factory manual or automatic transmission, trim/package and a photograph of the installed cluster label, face, warning/shift indicators and every connector. Use the VIN-specific current manufacturer catalog to resolve the exact branch; catalog destination and option codes must not be decoded from seller guesses. An automatic cluster must retain the required selector-position display and indicators, while a manual car has a different display/indicator requirement; a matching outer shape is insufficient. Scion's checked 2013 service tip states that immobilizer code information is stored in the combination meter and that a new meter requires authorized Techstream initialization and ECU-code registration, with all keys present under the related registration procedure. Do not generalize that exact procedure to every badge/year: obtain current factory service information and authorized diagnostic support for the subject VIN before purchase or installation. Preserve the vehicle's actual accumulated mileage. Under 49 U.S.C. 32704, service or replacement ordinarily keeps the registered mileage the same; if that cannot be done, the statute specifies a zero reading and written door-frame notice. Transfer disclosures remain governed by 49 U.S.C. 32705 and applicable state law. This guide does not provide rollback, cloning, key-programming, EEPROM, security-bypass or mileage-correction instructions. OEM numbers

Representative checked Scion catalog identities include early combination meters SU003-02599, SU003-02600, SU003-02601 and SU003-02602, followed by catalog branches SU003-05485, SU003-05486, SU003-05487 and SU003-05488those are option/destination branches, not one interchangeable chain. Checked 2017 Toyota 86 branches include SU003-07002, SU003-07003, SU003-07013, SU003-07448 and SU003-07449, while the checked 2020 catalog also exposes SU003-08252, SU003-08253, SU003-08255 and SU003-08256 for later equipment branches. Early checked Subaru BRZ meters are 85002CA250 -> 85002CA251 and separate 85002CA260the 2020 BRZ catalog lists distinct base/high/STI and equipment branches including 85012CA020, 85012CA030, 85012CA530, 85012CA540, 85012CA550 and 85012CA560. Supersession

The only formal service replacement retained here is Subaru 85002CA250 -> 85002CA251. The remaining listed Toyota/Scion and Subaru meter numbers are parallel model-year, destination, trim, transmission/display or equipment branches unless a current VIN-specific manufacturer catalog proves otherwise. Similar faces, shared first-generation body architecture and marketplace phrases such as FR-S/BRZ/86 do not create a cross-badge supersession. Meter glass, visor/cover and surrounding trim are separately cataloged pieces, not cluster supersessions.

Aftermarket digital displays and face/LED modifications are separate engineering and legal decisions; this page does not validate their warning-lamp behavior, speed accuracy, dimming, inspection compliance, security integration or wiring.
