2003-2008 350Z VQ35DE, RevUp and VQ35HR Engine and Long-Block Donor Identification

US/LHD 2003-2008 Nissan 350Z Coupe and 2004-2008 Roadster factory VQ35 engine and long-block applications only, separated as 2003-2004 standard VQ35DE; 2005 standard VQ35DE versus the checked 300-hp 35th Anniversary and Track high-output branch commonly marketed as RevUp; 2006 manual and automatic VQ35DE branches with seller RevUp language verified by VIN and installed architecture rather than year alone; and 2007-2008 VQ35HR. Exact VIN, production date, body, transmission preparation, emissions configuration and installed or service identity remain mandatory. Exclude the 2009 Roadster, G35, FX and other Nissan or Infiniti donors, JDM/import/RHD plug-and-play claims, performance builds or swaps, and every unsupported cross-architecture interchange claim.

What you need to know

Start with the recipient 17-character VIN, build date, US Coupe or Roadster body, transmission, emissions label and installed engine architecture. For 2005, Nissan's checked specification separates regular 287-hp applications from 300-hp 35th Anniversary and Track applications; do not infer the high-output or RevUp branch from model year alone. For 2006, the checked catalog has separate manual and automatic bare-engine identities, while one used seller identifies a 2006 six-speed donor as RevUp; require donor VIN, installed front-cover, head and cam-control evidence rather than extending that seller label. For 2007-2008 require VQ35HR identity and its dual-intake, head, timing/control, electronics and oil-system architecture. Itemize cylinder heads and covers, timing/front cover, intake and exhaust manifolds, throttle bodies, fuel rail and injectors, alternator, starter, power-steering and A/C accessories, brackets and mounts, oil pan and pickup, harness and ECM, sensors, flywheel or flexplate/drive plate, clutch or torque-converter pieces, cooling connections and certified emissions hardware. Match manual/automatic crank-end and external interfaces; a matching displacement or family name is not enough. Preserve the recipient's certified Federal or California emissions configuration and calibration. Before buying used, require donor VIN/year/build/body/transmission and mileage basis, cold and warm compression or leak-down results for all six cylinders with method, hot oil pressure if available, startup or run video, oil-use, smoke and blow-by history, oil/coolant contamination, overheating, timing noise, front-cover and oil-pan condition, drain and mounting threads, cracks, storage corrosion, warranty/startup terms, core and freight-damage procedure. Diagnose cooling, catalyst restriction, fuel, ignition, wiring, ECM, accessory and oil-pressure faults before condemning the long block. Use qualified heavy-component lifting and support, drain fluids, follow the exact Nissan removal/installation procedure, prime the lubrication system and verify cooling and emissions operation before startup.

OEM numbers

Checked Nissan catalog service identities include early VQ35DE bare-engine 10102-CD0M0, replaced by 10102-CD0M6separate bare-engine 10102-CD7M0 and automatic-labeled 10102-CD7M1manual-labeled bare-engine 10102-AC7MA, replaced by 10102-AC7MZshort-engine 10103-CD0M0 and manual-labeled 10103-AC7M1, replaced by 10103-AC7M9and VQ35HR bare-engine 10102-JK6MA and short-engine 10103-JK6M1. These are catalog search and verification identities, not a universal engine interchange list and not proof that a listing includes cylinder heads, manifolds, accessories, oil pan, harness, ECM, sensors, mounts, flywheel or flexplate, clutch, torque converter, cooling pieces or emissions equipment. Resolve the recipient and donor VIN/build, Coupe/Roadster, transmission, emissions label, readable installed marks and exact photographed contents before ordering.

Supersession

Only three explicit checked Nissan catalog relationships are retained: 10102-CD0M0 -> 10102-CD0M6, 10102-AC7MA -> 10102-AC7MZ and 10103-AC7M1 -> 10103-AC7M9. No arrow is asserted among 10102-CD7M0, 10102-CD7M1, 10103-CD0M0, 10102-JK6MA or 10103-JK6M1, or between standard VQ35DE, high-output or RevUp VQ35DE and VQ35HR. Bare-engine and short-engine catalog language does not mean a complete dressed engine. Seller DE, RevUp, HR, JDM or 350Z/G35 labels are sourcing leads only until the exact donor and recipient identities, architecture and transfer requirements are proven.

Fitment

Start with the recipient 17-character VIN, build date, US Coupe or Roadster body, transmission, emissions label and installed engine architecture. Use qualified heavy-component lifting and support, drain fluids, follow the exact Nissan removal/installation procedure, prime the lubrication system and verify cooling and emissions operation before startup.

Aftermarket options

No generic cross-platform replacement is promoted. A documented remanufactured long block or a machine-shop rebuild of the known original can be preferable to an unknown donor, but require a written VQ35DE, high-output or RevUp VQ35DE, or VQ35HR architecture; donor/core and recipient VIN application; block, crank, head and bore measurements; machining report; bearing and piston sizes; oil-pump and timing/control work; gasket and seal brands; exact included externals; core/freight terms; installer acceptance and warranty. Used and import sellers remain sourcing leads only. A low-price engine disclosed with lower-end knock is a rebuild/core example, not a running replacement. Do not treat a seller's broad 350Z/G35 or year span as proof of compatible heads, control system, oil pan, harness, ECM, accessories, transmission preparation or emissions equipment.

Before you buy

US 2003-2008 350Z Coupe and 2004-2008 Roadster only. Separate standard VQ35DE, the 2005 high-output and seller-labeled RevUp branch, 2006 manual/automatic applications, and 2007-2008 VQ35HR by VIN/build and installed architecture; never infer from year or displacement alone. Match transmission preparation and certified emissions configuration, require an exact contents list and donor test evidence, and treat bare/short/long-block or complete wording as seller-specific. G35, JDM and cross-era labels are not interchange proof. Use installer-approved heavy-lifting, oil-priming, cooling and startup procedures.
