2005-2010 Mustang GT and Bullitt TR3650 Manual Transmission Assembly Identification

Supported complete-assembly service paths are 7R3Z-7003-J -> 9R3Z-7003-AA and 7R3Z-7003-L -> 9R3Z-7003-AA. Supported related service paths are 8R3Z-7210-AA -> AR3Z-7210-A for one external TR3650 shifter-housing branch and 4R3Z-7052-CA -> 7R3Z-7288-B for the shift-shaft seal. The 4R3Z-7089-BB and 8R3Z-7089-BA output-flange entries are production branches separated at 12/2006, not asserted as a universal supersession or plug-and-play interchange. IMPORTANT CORRECTION: the 2005 catalog's 4R3Z-7003-BM -> 6R3Z-7003-A entry lacks a TR3650 option label, while the checked 2007 catalog explicitly assigns 6R3Z-7003-A to T5OD; it is therefore rejected as a TR3650 service chain. The separate 9R3Z-7003-BA assembly is also cataloged T5OD and is excluded. No Ford chain is asserted between a stock 10-spline S197 TR3650 and a 26-spline conversion, between 2001-2004 and 2005-2010 cases, or between TR3650, T5, TR6060 and MT82 families.

Begin with the recipient 17-character VIN, model/build year, US/LHD identity, factory 4.6L three-valve GT or 2008-2009 Bullitt configuration and certification-label transmission code K. Require the donor VIN/build and readable full transmission tag, Ford engineering/service marks and photographs of the complete case, integrated clutch housing, extension housing, input, output flange, speed sensor, reverse switch, shifter shaft and mount. A seller's TR3650 or 2005-2010 heading does not resolve production or contents. Ford's checked complete-assembly service evidence begins at 06/2006; do not invent an early 2005-2006 whole-unit number. The S197 unit differs materially from 2001-2004 TR3650s: it uses a hydraulic concentric release-bearing arrangement, an external remote shifter, a longer stock-style 10-spline input and a fixed rear flange on the 31-spline output rather than the earlier cable clutch, top-mounted shifter and slip yoke. Match the 12/2006 rear-flange production branch, driveshaft companion interface, remote shifter housing/linkage and boots, transmission mount/crossmember position, OSS sensor/tone-wheel provision, reverse-switch connector and harness routing. The Bullitt's polished shift ball is separate trim and does not prove a different or interchangeable gearbox. A 26-spline input means a conversion: clutch disc, pilot, release-bearing stack and installation records must match, and that conversion remains outside factory-donor interchange. A transmission-only listing does not prove inclusion of the shifter or remote linkage, knob/boots, hydraulic release bearing, clutch/flywheel, pilot bearing, driveshaft/flange hardware, mount/crossmember, sensors/switches, harness, starter, fluid or fasteners; itemize every component. For a used unit require donor mileage basis, road/dyno/bench test evidence, all-gear and reverse engagement, cold/hot shift behavior, noise and synchronizer condition, input/output play, leaks and fluid/debris evidence, case/ear/tail damage, stripped threads, storage/corrosion, warranty/returns, core terms and freight-damage procedure. Use transmission-rated lifting/support, never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack, and follow the exact current Ford removal, installation, clutch-hydraulic, driveshaft, fastener and fluid-level procedure; the checked 2010 owner guide's 3.2 US qt/3.0 L Mercon V snapshot is not permission to substitute fluid or skip the current exact-unit procedure.

A documented S197-specific rebuild or remanufactured unit can reduce unknown donor risk, but require written confirmation of the recipient VIN/build, Ford code-K application, actual case and flange branch, stock 10-spline or converted input, remote-shifter/sensor contents, dyno or bench test, warranty, core and freight terms. High Impact, Transmission Locator and Allstate Gear are dated sourcing paths, not Ford supersessions. A 26-spline input conversion changes the clutch-disc requirement and may alter release-system setup; it must not be marketed as factory stock. Magnum XL/T56 swaps, adapter or bellhousing conversions, modified driveshafts and race gearsets require a separate engineered project and are outside this factory donor guide. S197-0001 retains hydraulic release-bearing service, S197-0002 clutch/flywheel selection and S197-0011 external shifter-bushing repair; this page only inventories those boundaries around the complete gearbox.

US/LHD 2005-2010 Mustang GT and 2008-2009 Bullitt 4.6L three-valve/code-K TR3650 only. TR3650 wording alone does not prove interchange. Match both VIN/builds, full physical tag/case evidence, stock or converted input, 12/2006 output-flange branch, remote shifter/linkage, OSS and reverse-switch interfaces, mount, test condition, exact contents, warranty/core and freight.
