WHERE TO BUY

Open an exact listing, then confirm fitment, stock, price, and shipping with the seller before ordering.

What you need to know

Match badge, VIN/model year, build date, exact installed service number and TL701 identification before ordering. Verify complete gearbox versus case or partial assembly; bellhousing, extension housing, input/output splines, mount ears, neutral and back-up switches, connectors/harness, shifter, release fork/bearing, slave cylinder, mount, fasteners and fluid contents. Diagnose clutch-release noise, shifter rattle, mounts, linkage and fluid separately before condemning the gearbox. On used units inspect case cracks, broken ears, stripped plugs, leaks, shaft play, gear/synchronizer operation, donor mileage, drain-fluid condition, freight damage, warranty and return terms. Support the heavy assembly with suitable lifting equipment and follow the factory procedure.

OEM numbers

2013-2016 Scion FR-S: Toyota SU003-04329, TL70/TL701VD90. 2013-2016 Subaru BRZ: Subaru 30099AA800, TL701VD90A. 2017-2020 Toyota 86: Toyota SU003-06380, TL70/TL701VD50A. 2017-2020 Subaru BRZ: Subaru 30099AA870, TL701VD50A.

Supersession

No complete-assembly supersession or cross-badge interchange is asserted. The checked catalogs retain separate 2013-2016 TL701VD90/90A and 2017-2020 TL701VD50A branches and separate Toyota/Scion and Subaru service numbers. Shifter, clutch/release hardware, mount, switches, harness, fluid and external hardware are separately serviced and must not be assumed included.

Fitment

Match badge, VIN/model year, build date, exact installed service number and TL701 identification before ordering. Verify complete gearbox versus case or partial assembly; bellhousing, extension housing, input/output splines, mount ears, neutral and back-up switches, connectors/harness, shifter, release fork/bearing, slave cylinder, mount, fasteners and fluid contents. Diagnose clutch-release noise, shifter rattle, mounts, linkage and fluid separately before condemning the gearbox. On used units inspect case cracks, broken ears, stripped plugs, leaks, shaft play, gear/synchronizer operation, donor mileage, drain-fluid condition, freight damage, warranty and return terms. Support the heavy assembly with suitable lifting equipment and follow the factory procedure.

Aftermarket options

A checked remanufactured early TL70 path identifies 30099AA800/TL701VD90A and requires VIN or identification verification. Exact-number used OEM assemblies also exist. A reman or used listing must disclose generation branch, exact code, core terms, included external parts, test method, freight condition and warranty; seller interchange claims are not fitment proof.

Before you buy

First-generation US factory six-speed manual cars only. Match badge/VIN, model year and exact TL701/service number; 2013-2016 and 2017-2020 assemblies are separate catalog branches, and Toyota/Scion and Subaru numbers are not declared interchangeable. A transmission listing may omit the shifter, release hardware, switches, harness, mount or fluid. Diagnose clutch, release-bearing, shifter, mount and fluid faults separately. Inspect used-unit identity, case, splines, plugs, leaks, shaft play, gear operation, mileage, freight damage and returns. Support the assembly securely.
