US E46 M3 DSC Hydraulic Units: MK20, MK60 and Competition-Package Identification

US/LHD 2001-2006 BMW E46 M3 Coupe and Convertible factory DSC hydraulic units and attached electronic control units only. Resolve both VINs/build months, body, exact installed/service identities, early MK20 through 08/2002 versus late MK60 from 09/2002, and standard versus ZCP/Competition S7MA from 12/2004. Exclude non-M E46 RWD/xi, E36/Z3/Z4, CSL/non-US/RHD assumptions, unidentified universal units, mixed hydraulic/electronic halves, flood/fire/collision-contaminated donors, race-only controllers and DSC/ABS delete or bypass work.

What you need to know

Start with both VINs/build months and a qualified DSC fault scan; preserve BMW-0034 ownership of wheel-speed sensor, harness, encoder and warning diagnosis. The checked M3 catalog changes from MK20 through 08/2002 to MK60 from 09/2002, and late ZCP/S7MA uses a separate branch from 12/2004. Require readable photos of every BMW/ATE label, the 43-pole early or 47-plus-6-pole late connector arrangement, connector pins, pump motor, valve block, bracket and every brake-line port and its orientation. Require donor VIN/build/options, stored faults before removal, test method, warranty, returns and exact included contents. Reject flood, water, fire or collision exposure; cracked or impact-damaged castings; bent, cross-threaded, uncapped, contaminated or corroded ports; contaminated fluid; corroded pins; broken latches; cut wiring; or unexplained opening/mixed halves. A warning lamp or sensor code does not condemn the hydraulic unit. BMW MK60 procedure requires fault-memory work, coding when directed, steering-angle/pressure/transverse-acceleration adjustments, brake bleeding and a function check; repair-and-return no-coding language applies only to the unchanged original unit and vendor work order. Do not detach the pump motor from the valve block where BMW prohibits it, mix line positions or infer an in-car no-bleed shortcut. Opening the hydraulic circuit requires clean specified fluid, sealed ports, every line returned to its original port, qualified bleeding and post-repair DSC/ABS verification. No bypass, delete or calibration-hack instructions.

Supersession

Verified only within the late BMW branches: 34512282558 -> 34512460531; 34522282559 -> 34522460489; ZCP 34512282421 -> 34512460532; ZCP 34522282423 -> 34522460526. No supersession or interchange is asserted from early MK20 34512229827/34512229802 to late MK60, from standard MK60 to ZCP, or between hydraulic and electronic identities. A service replacement does not erase VIN/build, system-generation, option, connector, port, coding or contents checks.

Fitment

Start with both VINs/build months and a qualified DSC fault scan; preserve BMW-0034 ownership of wheel-speed sensor, harness, encoder and warning diagnosis. Do not detach the pump motor from the valve block where BMW prohibits it, mix line positions or infer an in-car no-bleed shortcut. No bypass, delete or calibration-hack instructions.

Aftermarket options

Checked alternatives are repair-and-return services for the vehicle's original MK60 electronic unit or pump/module assembly. Retaining the original can preserve vehicle coding, but no-coding/no-reload language is a vendor claim limited to the unchanged original and does not prove that a donor controller, hydraulic block or mixed assembly is compatible. No checked aftermarket path proves universal E46, non-M/M3, MK20/MK60, standard/ZCP interchange, an ABS/DSC bypass or a no-bleed hydraulic shortcut.

Before you buy

US 2001-2006 E46 M3 only. Separate early MK20 through 08/2002, late-standard MK60 from 09/2002 and ZCP/S7MA MK60 from 12/2004; no non-M, xi, MK20/MK60 or standard/ZCP interchange is claimed. Match both VINs/builds, labels, connector layout, ports and contents after diagnosis. Replacement electronics require BMW-compatible coding/adjustments where directed. Opening hydraulics requires contamination-controlled qualified brake service, correct line placement, bleeding and post-repair DSC/ABS verification. Seller stock and prices are dated observations.
